Overwhelm

Overwhelm happens for all people eventually. Even life coaches!

I am in the throes of a seriously busy 6 weeks. Growth and newness and exciting prospects are ahead but directly in front of me is an enormous list of things to do! Each day it seems as I complete some items new ones show up.

Yesterday as the beauty of spring surrounded me, flowers blooming, birds chirping, it happened. The “OH NO!! HOW WILL I EVER GET IT ALL DONE!?!?!?” moment. I panicked…I told Blake I was panicking and then I went off on my own. I was freaking out. Even as I write this now, a day later, I feel a little anxious just thinking about the overwhelm I felt yesterday.

It happens to all of us. We make plans, things happen, more get’s added, opportunities present themselves and suddenly we are at capacity.

How do you deal when you get this overwhelm.

Take it out of your head; put it on paper and ORGANIZE IT!

First take a moment to enjoy all that surrounds you. I spent some time enjoying the spring day, even working in my garden a little. Step away from the frantic pace and slow down.

My head was clear; I felt inspired and went in to tackle the list.

Sit down and make a chronological list of all your projects. Take that master list and break it down again into “life-sized” tasks.

Now, my overwhelm is on paper and it seems easily completable. It went from “I don’t think I can do this” to “I absolutely can” in a matter of 15 minutes of planning.

Get your overwhelm out of your head and put it on paper. Break it down. Organize it so you know exactly when and what you need to complete.

Make sure you include time for you, time to recharge and time to relax!

Always look for the light!

I opened my fortune cookie and found the best fortune I have received to date;

Never fear shadows. They simply mean there’s
a light shining somewhere nearby.

I love this idea and I think I have sincerely tried to base my life on a similar ideal.
Look for the positive or the learning experience in all situations.

Just this past month I dealt with some health challenges and the loss of my beloved dog Ophelia that left me feeling a varied amount of both physical and emotional pain for about 21 days straight. It was exhausting and left me feeling just a shadow of myself.

I spent a lot of time doing nothing, or just resting and dealing with how I felt. I procrastinated, watched movies and goofy TV, played Mafia Wars on Facebook and thought…a lot.

Now, that all of the pain seems to be diminishing. I feel physically better having recovered from a horrible end of winter virus and having had a minor oral surgery to deal with the infection in my jaw of which I am almost fully recovered. Also, my heart feels better; distance from a loss is always a great healer and Storm my other dog seems even more excited to see me when I come through the door.

This experience brought me down, the hyper, wild ,full of energy Deanna hid in the shadows and regrouped and came out stronger and ready to work.

All of that down time gave me time to work out many ideas in my head, and now, when I write...the words come flying out of me like they have been dying to break free.

That down moment, in the shadows, gave me necessary time to regroup and reenergize and what seemed to an experience of only physical and emotional pain became the impetus for some exciting new changes in my coaching practice.

The shining light was new ideas; lots of time to think and much need rest.

Always look for the shining light and your life will truly be a joy!

Your vision for 2009

Your vision for 2009

January is an excellent time to spend time thinking about what is next for you. It’s cold outside, start a fire or get yourself a warm cup of tea, stay in your pajamas and curl up with your journal or notebook and write.

Write your story for 2009. Write as if it was January 1, 2010 and you are reminiscing about your wonderful year. Write about all that went well and how you had the perfect year. Have fun with it and really think about your year in detail. Be specific; include all aspects of your life.

Think about all of what 2009 held for you.

After, look back on your writing and make a list. This is your master list, the list of 2009. List everything, list it all, and list more after that and then…just a little bit more. List as if you had 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 52 weeks of the year to do what you wanted.

Push yourself and think about all you could accomplish.

This is your inspiration; use it every time you need something to do. Use it to inspire yourself. Use it so that you don’t spend your year sitting around watching TV or surfing on the net.

Use it to help you think big and dream bigger!

If you include house related tasks make them about organizing or making your life easier. If you include your family it should be about spending time together, having fun, and improving communication.

Include yourself care, time for healthcare, time for growth and time for reflection.

Once you have your dream list, pick a few items off of it for each month of the year. These are task you commit to, that you will complete.

When you think about your list, your vision based on months and seasons you can be more realistic about what and when you can accomplish your goals. Everyone has a more productive season or series of months. Looking as what you want to accomplished based upon your natural rhythms lets you be more successful. Use your seasonal patterns for success!

January is a time for reflection and planning. Take your January to look back at all that was good in 2008 and all that will be fabulous in 2009.

2009 is now just raw space, wide open possibilities. Fill it with all of what is important and meaningful to you.

Happy New Year!

Monday, January 5, 2009

Positivity and happiness starts with one person.

It is a new year! I hope to see a lot of changes this year; the most important is a global shift from negativity to positivity.

Positivity and happiness starts with one person.

Be that one person. As Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in this world.”

Make a commitment in 2009 to be positive, to see yourself and your life from a strengths based perspective and move forward each day with determination and openness.

Start your day with positive thoughts; use your golden hour wisely. The first 60 minutes in the morning can set the tone for your whole day so take advantage of that. Avoid radio and TV, spend time reflecting, writing, listening to your favorite music or meditating. Look over your list for the day and think about how you want to spend your time. Have a nutritious breakfast that will give you the energy you need. When you get in your car turn on your favorite songs and sign along, listen to a book on audio.

At the end of your day write your gratitude’s in your journal.

Doing your gratitude journal as the last thing you do before you sleep instills positivity into your subconscious. Listing your gratitude’s daily will help you to remain positive and increase your levels of happiness. Write 3-5 things that made you grateful during your day. This journal can help in moments of difficulty because you can go back to it and remember all that is good and you can be thankful for in your life.

Approach each moment of your day with your personal strengths in mind, when a challenge or difficulty arises, change your perspective.

Stop yourself from reacting. Take a moment and think about how you can approach the challenge with a different paradigm. Use your strengths; always think about the positive you can bring to the challenge.

Learning your personal strengths, your signature strengths can change how you approach each moment of your life. Make it a point to start this year concentrating on what makes you the strongest. List your top five strengths and make them part of every day. If you have a problem listing your strengths ask your loved ones and they can help you.

If you still struggle email me and we can work together to list your top five.

Learn your strengths, post them everywhere, be able to recite them in the same way you can your name and birth date, Make them as much a part of who you are as your most important beliefs.

Lead with your strengths and work towards positive change!
